BDAT Staff Contract Consultation – Autumn 2018

BDAT is proposing to make some changes to all staff contracts from January next year.  As a Trust which has a Union recognition agreement, we will be consulting with Unions about these changes.  However, we also wanted to make sure you had access to the information directly so you understand the rationale for and detail of the changes.

This web page includes a presentation summarising the changes, a FAQ and sample contracts. It also includes details of how you can ask more questions if you have an issue or a comment which you don’t feel has been covered.

Why are we doing this?

BDAT has lots of different staff on lots of different contracts. These new contracts bring all our early staff up to date on to the newest BDAT version of the contracts and seek to make terms and conditions for all staff across both teaching and support staff more equal where possible. The contracts do strengthen BDAT’s rights to make changes in the future, such as the right to alter pay conditions (like the LA can now) if we get further un-funded pay cuts, however all of the changes are within the context of the following principles:

  • Nobody gets a pay cut (and we have budgeted reasonable pay awards for the future).
  • Nobody loses annual leave.
  • Equality between teachers, support staff and the central team.
  • To make us more attractive as an employer.
  • To save money, which in turn saves jobs.
  • Discretion is built in at school and Trust level.

How can I find out more?
There are three ways you can ask further questions or find out more:

  1. Email your questions to consultation@bdat-academies.org.We will be reviewing questions weekly and adding them to the FAQ. If you want to pose a question anonymously, please speak to your Head or Business Manager who can send them on your behalf.
  2. Speak to your Headteacher or Business Manager directly – they will be able to answer questions or pass them on to the BDAT central team.
  3. Attend one of our consultation meetings. We aim to try to have meetings at each school during the consultation period, but if you can’t make the date at your school you are welcome to attend any of the dates below:

What happens next?
This consultation period is running from 17th September to 2nd November 2018. After that the BDAT Board will consider comments and changes and decide whether to move ahead with any parts of the proposal.
