BDAT is committed to developing its staff at every stage of their career from newly qualified teacher through to Executive Headteacher and all the teaching and support roles in between. To support staff in identifying the development opportunities available to them we have developed the BDAT Career Map for teaching and support staff. This document identifies the various stages that exist within a career pathway in schools for teachers and support staff and lays out the various opportunities that are on offer to develop you as a leader within your current role or on your next step up the careers ladder. It can be used by staff to help them plan own development and next steps or by line managers to support both appraisal and annual careers discussions.
What opportunities are available?
The opportunities that are ultimately available are varied; some involve giving you an insight in to the various aspects of life within the Trust, for example, attending governors’ meetings, subject networks or spending time in another Trust school. Others opportunities involve participation in particular programmes or training, either developed and delivered by Trust staff or by specifically chosen external providers. There is also the chance for high performing staff to be recognised as BDAT Leaders of Education or Specialist Leaders of Education with the chance to lead on Trust initiatives or be involved in school to school support.
How can I access the map?
A version of the map is available here. A more detailed version is made available to the staff who undertake your performance management.
How can I access the opportunities laid out on the map?
The opportunities outlined in the career map can be discussed at your annual performance management meeting and for those staff who wish to take advantage of them, at any annual careers discussion you may have. Please consider the opportunities that are laid out in the document; you may wish to raise them with your line manager at your performance management meeting or may wish to do so at any time of the year when you feel it appropriate to take on further development opportunities.
Please note that the Trust has only published the teacher careers map. A support staff version is under development and will be made available in autumn 2019.
The career map is also not a static document and the Trust is constantly looking for additional features that will enable us to develop ALL our staff, whatever role they have within the Trust. Please do come back to look at the map on a regular basis to find out what is new and being offered.
