Staff and Students at Shipley CE Primary have had a fantastic Christmas present this year following the Government announcement that the primary school is one of the latest 239 schools across England to benefit from the School Rebuilding Programme.
Each school has been selected based on the condition of its buildings, making sure the greatest improvements are delivered for schools that need them the most.
Headteacher Gavin Hamilton said the funding will allow the school to upgrade the existing facilities and will secure additional and upgraded classrooms, sports facilities and dining areas. The new school buildings will be designed to be more energy efficient to cut carbon emissions and the rising cost of bills.
Mr Hamilton said: “We are absolutely delighted that Shipley CE Primary School have been prioritised for a school rebuild. Shipley CE Primary School serves a vibrant and diverse school community and we are really pleased that the new school will offer an even better learning environment for our children to enjoy their time at school with new classrooms, sports facilities and dining areas.
“We are particularly pleased that this build will also support our school and Trust’s new energy sustainability strategy and ambition to be carbon net-zero by 2030.
“Coupled with the school’s strong Ofsted inspection this year, today’s news ends a really great year for everyone at Shipley Church of England Primary School.”
Reacting to the announcement, Shipley MP Philip Davies said: “The quality of facilities in schools can have a significant impact on a student’s learning and I have been working closely with the Conservative Government to secure investment in our schools to offer children the best opportunity to succeed.
“That is why I welcome the news that Shipley CE Primary will benefit from the latest round of the School Rebuilding Programme.”
Education Secretary Gillian Keegan said: “Education is a top priority for this Government. That is why, despite facing challenging economic circumstances, we are investing a record amount in our schools and colleges. Today’s announcement will transform hundreds of schools across the country and ensure they are fit for the future.
“The additional funding, alongside fantastic new facilities, will mean our brilliant teachers can get on with what they do best – and inspire the next generation.”
