Christ Church Academy is located on Wrose Brow Road, Shipley and part of the successful Bradford Diocesan Academies Trust which leads a family of fourteen primaries, four secondaries and one all through school across the region to deliver high quality education within the context of Christian belief and practice.
Over two years in the making but at last Christ Church Academy will shortly open it’s doors to their amazing new Edible Garden space.
Christ Church Academy is located on Wrose Brow Road, Shipley and part of the successful Bradford Diocesan Academies Trust which leads a family of fourteen primaries, four secondaries and one all through school across the region to deliver high quality education within the context of Christian belief and practice.
Back in May 2021 the school made contact with a chaity organisation called Cities for Trees who were proposing to install edible gardens to schools that would benefit the most. The charity were offering to cover over 80% of the build with the school contributing 20%. Funding just 20% of the costs was still out of reach of the school, so the BDAT family stepped in and the Trust provided the additional funds to allow the project to commence. Overall the project is valued at £30,000 !
Now that the garden is almost complete, the school will receive support from another charity called Grow for Schools who will educate the children to plant, grow and harvest everything from Beans to Potatoes and Flowers to Wall Climbers. Planters will be named after the school’s Christian Values and the space will double up as a calm, reflective area for pupils and staff.
The initial seeding phase will start in May and with almost 20 planters to look after, all year groups including early years and Nurture Provision will take on the responsibility to care for their own ‘patch’ until harvest. As a school Christ Church works hard to nurture the Well-Being of it’s children and they believe that the edible garden supports aspirations for their children to be become healthier and have a better understanding or nutrition and diet.
