#RelationshipReset – Promoting the Importance of Consent:
Since 2021, students from across BDAT have been working alongside students from a number of other Trusts and schools nationally to raise the importance of tackling harmful sexual behaviour and promoting the importance of consent. As a result of student and staff voice, this website hosts a number of teaching resources to further enable the effective delivery of consent.
Harmful Sexual Behaviour (HSB) is a term used to describe sexual actions that are outside what is safe for a young person’s stage of development. It includes actions that can harm either the child or the young person themselves, or another person. Harmful sexual behaviour can be in-person or online and can involve a range of behaviours.
Unfortunately HSB is a growing issue and concern for children in UK schools and communities today. Its prevalence was highlighted on the ‘Everyone’s Invited’ website in 2020 which enabled young people themselves to reiterate these warnings in the form of their own harrowing testimonies, warning us of the true extent of the issue. Finally, Ofsted in 2021, following their own rapid review of the issue, confirmed that ‘the issue is so widespread that it needs addressing for all children and young people’.
Students from across BDAT have worked hard to raise the importance of tackling and addressing the signs and effects of harmful sexual behaviour through the #RelationshipReset initiative and subsequent pledge they developed alongside their peers, teachers and with Trust leaders.

Empowered by this charter and having gained hundreds of testimonies as a collective, the young people in our Trusts are now ready to present their findings and recommendations to national leaders who have the power to affect change.

The #RelationshipReset summit on 14th March 2025 will see the culmination of months of research and collaboration by our brave young people and will be a resounding call for the change that is needed.
As leaders in education, we stand behind our young people and are committed to providing safe and inclusive learning environments for all students. Sexual harassment is a serious issue that can have a detrimental impact on the well-being and academic success of children and young people. By fostering a culture of respect, awareness and accountability, we strive to ensure that every student feels safe, valued and empowered to reach their full potential.
We are proud of what our young people have achieved and the work they continue to do to drive meaningful behavioural change.
Continuing our work on consent and relationships, young people from across our Trust and four other Trusts nationally, have produced an impactful report calling out their concerns about safety on public transport in the UK. The report includes several strong calls to action from local and national leaders. Read the report here.
